Republication of Journey

Journey Through A Small Planet is re-released today. Even if you have an old edition gathering dust somewhere, you will be interested in this edition, because it contains several items of new material. First of all, there is a fantastic new 11,500 word introduction to the book, meticulously researched and written by our friend Patrick Wright. This really helps to flesh out who my father is and what he was doing in his long life, before and after he wrote Journey. Included for the first time is also a previously unpublished Prologue to the book, written in a tangibly different, impressionistic post-war style. Finally, we have collected two poems that we feel are so relevant to my father’s life; the evocative yet unpretentious ‘A Long Look Back’, describing in poetic form the throbbing vitality of the East End, and secondly the famous ‘To T.S. Eliot’ which my father [in]famously read to the great man’s face in order to challenge him about his anti-semitic lines republished after the Holocaust, and the destruction of Eastern European ghettoes just like the one in Journey.
